Sir,
I have the honour to inform you that the
question of introducing taxation in this Colony on motor-cars and motor spirit on the lines of the taxation in force in
the United Kingdom, is under consideration, and in this connection I forward the report of a Commission which recently sat to enquire into the matter. Before taking action on the report I should be glad of further information as to the method of collection of the motor spirit taxes by
the Customs and Excise Authorities at home, and I should
therefore be obliged if I could be supplied with copies of
the following documents:-
The reports of the Royal Commission on motor spirit taxation. (I understand there were two such
reports.)
The Circular of Advice issued by the Customs and
Excise Authorities to the Trade on the re-
introduction of the Petrol Tax.
The regulations regarding the taxation of motor
spirit issued by the Commissioners of Customs
and Excise, including the methods laid down for
